PRIME MOVERS AWARD WINNER!
We are pleased to announce that our Technical Director, Robert Brandt, has won this years' PRIME MOVERS AWARD!
His paper “Fuel Air Ratio with accurate Primary and Tempering Air Measurement in a Pulverized Coal Fired Utility” was chosen after Robert Brandt wrote and presented this technical paper at the 2008 ASME Power Conference in Orlando, FL last July. The Prime Movers Award recognizes outstanding contributions to the literature of thermal electric station practice or equipment which are available through public presentation and publication. The Prime Movers Committee of the Edison Electric Institute established the award in 1954.
If you are interested in a copy of the paper, it is available for purchase on the ASME website at:

We will keep you posted!
Robert Brandt's papers describe various air flow measurement scenarios. Eastern Instruments' air flow measurement devices are detailed below:
The High Beta
® flow conditioner consists of a flanged 304 stainless steel duct section that can be inserted into either round or rectangular ducts in order to eliminate cyclonic, turbulent, and reverse flow at the point of measurement. The High Beta® flow conditioner is designed for installations with relatively no straight duct runs upstream and/or downstream. There are many variations of the High Beta
® that include specific features designed for the pharmaceutical, process, and power generating industries.
The VAP
3® Pitot has a unique Velocity Averaging and Parallel Plate proprietary design. The VAP
3® Pitot's features include accurate differential pressure output that retains a ±2% accuracy in any application, including particulate-laden applications! The Parallel plate cross sectional design of our pitots minimizes turbulence at the sensing ports and prevents particulate build-up, while multiple differential pressure-sensing ports allow velocity averaging throughout the full traverse of the duct. Our superb engineering team also offers many engineered solutions including Heated Pitots, pitots for high velocities, and XL pitots for large duct applications.
